Porsche Revamps CarPlay Experience with My Porsche App
Porsche has announced an updated My Porsche App that brings new vehicle functionality to the CarPlay experience. With this integration, Porsche drivers can control audio, climate, comfort, lighting, and entertainment functions directly from CarPlay.
Key Features of the Updated My Porsche App
The combined My Porsche App and CarPlay feature allows users to perform various tasks like changing radio stations, controlling in-car temperature, and adjusting the lighting. The car model shows up through CarPlay, and wellness modes like "relax," "warm up," and "refresh" can be activated using the CarPlay quick actions feature.
Hands-Free Adjustments with Siri
All available vehicle functions can be controlled using Siri voice commands for hands-free adjustments while driving.
Easy Activation and Future Updates
Porsche owners can activate the feature by scanning a QR code displayed in the PCM. New CarPlay functions will be made available to Porsche owners as they are developed. The first vehicle to support this integration is the Porsche Cayenne, available now. The updated app will be rolled out to other model lines in the future.
Not the Next-Gen CarPlay
While Porsche is using a clever app integration to allow for vehicle functions to be controlled through CarPlay, this is not the next-generation CarPlay experience that Apple has in development. Apple last year previewed a range of new CarPlay functions that are in the works, including multi-screen support and CarPlay controls for vehicle functions. The next-generation CarPlay will be available only in new vehicles, and the first that support the updated CarPlay experience are expected later this year.
In conclusion, Porsche’s new app integration is like having a personal butler in your car, but without the awkward eye contact in the rearview mirror. Now, if only the app could also find a parking spot in downtown on a Friday night.
