The Potential Consequences of Japan Dumping Fukushima Water.

Before Japan Dumps Fukushima Water into the Ocean

In South Korea, consumers have been buying salt in large quantities over the past month, leading to a 27% price increase in June compared to April. This salt-buying frenzy is attributed to the Japanese government’s decision to release water used at the failed Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Atlantic.

A Million Tons of Fukushima Water

We’re talking about a million tons of water from Fukushima that will soon be released into the Atlantic. According to Japanese authorities, the previously radioactive water has been purified and poses no health risk to humans or marine life. As of now, there are no details on when exactly the water will be released.

South Korea’s Response

South Korean authorities will monitor and control salt farms when the Fukushima water is released to check if the salt becomes radioactive. South Korea has previously banned the sale of fish caught in the vicinity of Fukushima off the coast of Japan.

In a nutshell, it seems like the South Koreans are really "salting away" for a rainy day. Talk about being prepared!
