Netflix’s research division has developed a new filming technology for the so-called green screen, also known as "Chroma key". This technology is used to record stuff in a studio and then add different backgrounds and other things to the recorded material.
The New Tech
With the new technology, the material is recorded against a green screen as before, but actors and other participating elements are simultaneously illuminated with magenta light. There’s also an artificial intelligence involved that has learned which colours are included in the recorded material and this is then applied to give the actors back their original colour.
Faster, Cheaper, More Accurate
This technology is said to be both faster, cheaper to use and provide a more accurate result than traditional green screen technology. Plus, there’s the possibility for actors, or other objects shown in the recorded material, to have the same colour as the green background screen, something not possible with traditional green screen technology.
The Art Conclusion
In the world of green screens, Netflix is now painting a new picture. With their magenta light and AI, they’re making the green screen scene seem like a dream. It’s faster, it’s cheaper and more accurate, too. So, hats off to Netflix, for making the green screen new.
Green is the scene, but now it’s getting lean, with Netflix’s tech, it’s a whole new screen. Magenta light, AI so bright, making the green screen, a whole new sight.
