Reliving Gaming History with The Making of Karateka

The Making of a Classic: Karateka

In a blast from the past, game developer Digital Eclipse has released a trailer for The Making of Karateka, a game-cum-documentary about the creation of the classic Apple II game, Karateka.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

The nearly 40-year-old Karateka was crafted by Jordan Mechner during his university days. A few years later, he created another classic game, Prince of Persia. The interactive documentary includes playable versions of the original game, a later version, and a playable prototype of the game Deathbounce that Mechner developed in 1982.

Mechner’s Thoughts

Mechner himself writes in his blog about the upcoming game/documentary, "What they’ve built around my 1984 kicking-punching debut is so much more than a game remaster, I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it."

Coming Soon

The Making of Karateka is set to be released on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch later this year.

The Art Conclusion

In the world of gaming, where the latest graphics and gameplay mechanics often steal the spotlight, it’s refreshing to see a tribute to a classic. The Making of Karateka is not just a remastered game, it’s a nostalgic journey back to the roots of gaming. So, buckle up and get ready to kick-punch your way through gaming history.

Now here’s a game that’s older than most,
But still kicks harder than any ghost,
From Apple II to the modern console,
Karateka’s story continues to unroll.
