Reddit’s iOS App Icon: A Design Disaster or a Masterpiece of Modern Art?
Well, folks, it seems we’ve hit a new low in the world of app design. Reddit, the self-proclaimed “front page of the internet,” has recently updated its iOS app icon, and let’s just say, it’s not exactly winning any beauty contests.
The New Design: A Picasso or a Preschooler’s Doodle?
The new design features the familiar Reddit alien, affectionately known as Snoo, but with a twist. Instead of the usual clean, minimalist design we’ve come to expect, Snoo now appears to be trapped inside a neon orange blob. It’s as if the designers decided to take inspiration from a toddler’s finger painting session.
But hey, who are we to judge? Maybe this is Reddit’s attempt at abstract expressionism. Maybe they’re trying to make a statement about the chaotic nature of the internet. Or maybe, just maybe, they let a five-year-old loose with a box of crayons and this was the result.
Reddit Users: Not Exactly Thrilled
Unsurprisingly, Reddit users have not been shy about expressing their opinions on the new design. Comments range from “It looks like a radioactive tangerine” to “My eyes! My eyes!” and my personal favorite, “Did they design this on a dare?”
One user even went so far as to create a petition on Change.org to revert the icon back to its original design. Now that’s dedication.
Reddit’s Response: A Masterclass in Damage Control
So how has Reddit responded to this wave of criticism? With a masterclass in damage control, of course. They’ve acknowledged the feedback, thanked users for their “passion,” and promised to take all comments into consideration for future updates. In other words, they’ve basically said, “Thanks for your input, but we’re going to do what we want anyway.” Classic Reddit.
And Now, A Rap to Sum It All Up
Yo, Reddit’s new icon, it ain’t no gem,
Looks like it was drawn by a kid named Clem.
Users be hatin’, sayin’ it’s a disgrace,
Want the old icon back in its place. But Reddit ain’t sweatin’, they’re keepin’ it cool,
Sayin’ “Thanks for the feedback, you beautiful fool.”
So here’s to the future, whatever it brings,
In the world of app design, it’s the little things.
