Majority of Americans Prefer NASA to Prioritize Asteroid Deflection Over Moon Exploration
Forget the Moon, Save the Earth!
Well, well, well, it seems like the majority of Americans have finally decided to prioritize their survival over their curiosity. A recent survey reveals that most Americans would rather have NASA focus on asteroid deflection than moon exploration. Yes, you heard it right. We’re more interested in preventing a catastrophic, dinosaur-extinction-level event than finding out if the moon is really made of cheese.
Survey Says…
The survey, conducted by the Pew Research Center, found that 62% of Americans believe that NASA’s top priority should be to monitor asteroids and comets that could hit Earth. Only 13% thought that sending astronauts back to the moon should be the top priority. I guess we’ve finally realized that moon rocks aren’t as exciting as not being wiped out by a giant space rock.
Why the Sudden Shift?
Perhaps it’s the slew of disaster movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact that have finally gotten to us. Or maybe it’s the realization that we’ve already been to the moon, and it’s high time we focus on something a little more… survival-oriented. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Americans are finally waking up to the reality of our precarious position in the cosmos.
What Does This Mean for NASA?
Well, it’s hard to say. NASA has been pretty gung-ho about their Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the moon by 2024. But with public opinion shifting towards asteroid deflection, they might have to rethink their priorities. After all, what’s the point of going to the moon if there’s no Earth to come back to?
Final Thoughts
So there you have it, folks. The majority of Americans would rather NASA focus on saving the Earth than exploring the moon. It’s a surprising shift in priorities, but one that makes a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, as the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
“We’re not asking for the moon, just a little deflection,
Asteroids coming our way, need some protection.
NASA, hear our plea, it’s a simple selection,
Save our Earth, that’s the right direction.”
